The day has finally come and I think it took many of us by surprise – The FCC announces the NPRM for and MF and LF amateur allocation.
The NPRM can be read at: http://www.fcc.gov/document/implementation-world-radiocommunication-conferences-wrc-07-wrc-12 . Note that the contents are not terribly user-friendly but lawyers might enjoy it.
So what does this mean? Well, at the very least it means that there is some forward motion. One cannot guess how these proceedings will end up but given the amount of experimental data and the number of active, high-power experimental stations, I would say it has a very good chance of happening. How long will it take? 6-9 months, probably but like getting to this point, one never knows how the FCC may respond.
Here is the ARRL’s report and analysis of the NPRM: http://www.arrl.org/news/fcc-proposes-to-permit-amateur-access-to-2200-and-630-meters
I know a lot of guys are nervous but this is all good news and what we have been waiting for. Just relax and enjoy the band!
